About Us

The summer is a time to train and build a solid base for the upcoming season. We are an extension of that training.  Unlike many running camps, we save the intense running for you to do with your coaches. You will run with others at your level and ability and at the milage you are ready for. We will never make you do what you are not ready to do. Our goal is to continue your training, provide a fun-filled week, and have you leave excited about your upcoming season.

Our goal is to make running fun!

Location

Make Running Fun Cross Country Camp is located at Camp Scatico in Elizaville, NY. The 250 acre campus is situated on two lakes in what is called the Upper Hudson Valley, about 100 miles from New York City, just east of the Hudson River. It is nestled between the Catskill Mountains and the Berkshires. No public land or roads run through the camp ground.

Running

There will be two runs a day while at camp. Campers will run with others at the same ability level and at the mileage you are ready for; we will never push you to do more than you are  capable of. The morning run will be about 3 miles and the afternoon run can range from 3-10 miles. Each run, coaches will lead small running groups out on scenic routes. Midweek, we will do a fartlek run through the campsite. The last day of camp there is a cross country race among the athletes on camp grounds. At the end of the race each participant will receive a medal for their completion.

Housing

Boys and girls are housed separately in camp cabins with electricity and hot showers. Campers are supervised 24 hours/day by coaches and counselors.

Meals

Included in the price homemade  healthy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are served to all campers throughout the week. Served family style, there are many options to choose from. There is always a main course with sides, along with pasta and salads. The cooks always make more than enough for everyone at each sitting. Many former campers describe the food as the best camp food they have ever had. One camper stated, "It's better than mama's cooking."

Swimming

We have access to a lake front just steps away from the cabins. This waterfront is under careful watch of a trained lifeguard at all times. Available in this area are: diving boards, waiting area, blow-up trampoline, and basketball. This access allows the runners to relax after their afternoon run, do some water training, or just have fun.
